Monica Burton is joining Real Estate at The New York Times

Posted

I am thrilled to announce that Monica Burton, an experienced and creative editor, is joining the Real Estate desk as deputy. She will help to guide an ambitious staff known for a novel approach to coverage that still upholds the journalistic integrity and rigor of the mission of The New York Times.

Monica brings to the desk a deep background in lifestyle and service journalism. She has spent the last eight years at Eater, where she was most recently the deputy editor on Eater’s national site. Starting at Eater on the restaurant beat, she’s covered subjects within the world of dining and food culture with a mix of reported features, opinion, and a ton of service journalism. She also wrote the site’s weekly shopping-focused newsletter.

She has always found the food angle in the news, and I know she will do the same with real estate.

Prior to Eater, Monica helped launch new, digital-first brands at Time Inc., including Extra Crispy and The Drive.

She was a journalism and French major at New York University.

Please join us in welcoming Monica to The Times. Her first day was Monday.

Really? The real estate coverage is being conducted by someone who spent the last eight years editing stories about food? I guess the Times is still championing DEI over merit and experience.
