By: E&P Staff Syndicated Chicago Sun-Times critic Roger Ebert is scheduled to undergo surgery June 16 to remove a cancerous growth on his salivary gland, the newspaper's media columnist Robert Feder reported Thursday.

Ebert has had two previous surgeries to remove cancerous growths on his salivary gland, and in 2002 had surgery to remove a malignant tumor on his thyroid gland, the Sun-Times noted.

"It is not life threatening, and I expect to make a full recovery," Ebert told Feder. He said he will "continue to function as a film critic" while battling the "slow growing and persistent cancer.'

"You live with it," said Ebert, the paper's film critic since 1967. The surgery is scheduled for two days before his 64th birthday.
