More Cuts at 'St. Louis Post-Dispatch'

Posted
By: E&P Staff The St. Louis Post-Dispatch announced Friday that it had cut 20 newsroom, production, and marketing positions, following last month's 18 layoffs in human resources, production, and newsroom management.

"These are unprecedented times, caused by the national economic slump, that require us to reduce costs," Publisher Kevin Mowbray told his paper. "However, even with these reductions, we will give our customers the best print and online news products in the St. Louis metropolitan area."

In August 2007, the St. Louis daily offered voluntary early retirement packages to its staffers. About 60 accepted, among them reporters, photographers, editors, columnists, and production workers.
