More Cuts Coming at 'SF Chronicle'?

Posted
By: E&P Staff Representatives of the San Francisco Chronicle and the San Francisco Media Workers Guild have met to discuss further layoffs and buyouts at the daily, according to published reports.

The San Francisco Business Times
reported that the Media Workers Guild admitted in a statement that a meeting took place Friday to discuss plans to cut jobs at the Chronicle, which is owned by Hearst Corp.

The guild's statement said that while no details of the plan have been decided, job cuts could be announced "as early as next week," with additional announcements expected after Labor Day. Guild officials asked any members interested in considering a voluntary buyout to discuss it with a supervisor, the paper's HR department or the Guild.

The Chronicle cut close to 150 jobs earlier this year, after Hearst announced in February that the paper faced closure without "significant concessions" by both the Guild and Teamsters Local 853.
