By: (AP) Bob Ritter, president and publisher of The Olympian, has announced he is retiring from Gannett Co.
Ritter, 59, said he explored other opportunities within Gannett before making his decision.
"The newspaper options were in areas of the country that didn't fit the lifestyle my wife and I want," said Ritter, who has been with Gannett for 33 years. "Given an attractive retirement package, we opted out. We're extremely pleased."
Ritter joined The Olympian from The Journal News in Westchester, N.Y., where he was executive editor. Previously he'd been editor of Gannett News Service.
John Winn Miller, senior vice president of marketing in Tallahassee, will become president and publisher of The Olympian.
Earlier this month McLean, Va.-based Gannett, the largest newspaper publisher in the country, announced plans to give The Olympian, The Bellingham Herald, and The Idaho Statesman newspaper in Boise to Knight Ridder Inc. in exchange for the Tallahassee Democrat in Florida and cash.
