By: E&P Staff The names of panel-discussion speakers have just been released by the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists as it prepares to meet in San Antonio, Texas, June 25-28.
E&P had previously reported that Washington Post Writers Group (WPWG) columnist David Ignatius and former San Antonio mayor and Clinton cabinet member Henry Cisneros would talk at the AAEC convention.
A panel on obituary cartoons will include Mike Thompson of the Detroit Free Press and Copley News Service, Joel Pett of the Lexington (Ky.) Herald-Leader and the New York Times Syndicate-marketed CartoonArts International, and Clay Jones of The Free Lance-Star in Fredericksburg, Va., and Creators Syndicate.
Speaking during a panel on reader feedback will be Ted Rall of Universal Press Syndicate, Rex Babin of The Sacramento (Calif.) Bee and King Features Syndicate, and Mike Lester of the Rome (Ga.) News-Tribune and Cagle Cartoons. Rall -- who's also acquisition and development editor at United Media -- is AAEC president-elect, while Babin is vice president.
There will be various other panels and speakers, too.
Hosting the convention is San Antonio Express-News/King cartoonist John Branch, who's being assisted by Ben Sargent of the Austin American-Statesman and Universal and AAEC President Nick Anderson of the Houston Chronicle and WPWG.
