Local artists and other community members spent June 13 and 14 painting 25 murals around the old Press-Telegram building in Long Beach, Calif., thanks to the building's new owners, the local arts council and Downtown Long Beach Associates, as well as Lyons Art Supplies, which provide the materials.
The murals are among several beautification projects promoted by City Councilman Robert Garcia, who told the Press-Telegram that another art installation will replace the boarded up property across from the newspaper's old facility.
The Press-Telegram's old headquarters site was to be converted to mixed-use condominium development until the recession hurt the project's prospects for financing.
Until the site can be redeveloped, the murals and other area projects are designed to spruce up other wise vacant properties. The Press-Telegram reported, however, that the murals may be relocated before any development.
