Murdoch's Dow Jones Deal Clears Antitrust Hurdle Early

By: E&P Staff News Corp.'s $5 billion deal to take over Dow Jones & Co. was granted early termination of the Hart-Scott-Rodion Antitrust Act waiting period, the two companies said.

The deal, which is expected to close in the fourth quarter of this year, awaits certain other regulatory approvals, and must be approved by Dow Jones stockholders.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, The New York Times reported that Dow Jones' flagship Wall Street Journal will rename its Saturday leisure section from Pursuits to Weekend Journal, the same name the section has on Fridays. The Times quoted an unnamed "person close to the company" as saying the newspaper changed the name because readers were confused that a Friday section is called Weekend while an actual weekend day is named Pursuits.

The Weekend Journal name will be used in both the Friday and Saturday editions. On Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, the feature section is called Personal Journal.
