By: Joe Strupp The Australian, Rupert Murdoch?s only national broadsheet in his home country, plans to begin publishing articles from The Wall Street Journal on Friday, even before Murdoch?s deal to buy Dow Jones & Co. is finalized.
The Australian, based in Sydney, revealed plans for the alliance on its Web site today, stating: ?The nation?s only national broadsheet newspaper, The Australian, tomorrow launches a ground-breaking partnership with The Wall Street Journal. The deal will see a new Wall Street Journal page feature in The Australian?s business section and the newspaper will also publish articles from the Wall Street Journal as well as daily content from Dow Jones Newswires.
?The move comes as The Australian?s owner News Corporation finalizes its purchase of WSJ owner Dow Jones, but the new collaboration is independent of that deal,? the story states. ?The new partnership will continue online, with stories from Dow Jones newswires and the WSJ featuring on www.theaustralian.com.au.?
It did not state if content now available only to online subscribers at the Journal would be free on the non-paid Australian site.
The Australian's editor-in-chief, Chris Mitchell, said the deal ?heralds a new era of business journalism for the newspaper. This underlines our commitment to world class journalism and once again leaves our rivals in the shade.?
Dow Jones Consumer Media Group's vice-president of international operations William Casey said ?The Australian shared their aim of providing authoritative, insightful and invaluable business news.?
