By: Andrew Oppmann, president and publisher of The Daily News Journal in Murfreesboro, will also lead The Leaf-Chronicle in Clarksville.
The Gannett Co. announced Wednesday that Oppmann will serve as president and publisher of both Gannett papers. He replaces former Clarksville publisher Gene Washer, who retired on Friday after more than four decades at the newspaper.
Oppmann was named Murfreesboro publisher and vice president for audience management at The Tennessean, another Gannett newspaper in Nashville, in May 2007. In assuming the Clarksville position, he will leave his dual post at The Tennessean.
Oppmann's family lived in Clarksville before moving to Hopkinsville, Ky., where he was born and raised. He and his family will continue to live in Murfreesboro.
Oppmann, a 1985 graduate of the University of Kentucky, previously worked for newspapers including the Lexington (Ky.) Herald-Leader, The Kentucky Enquirer, The Knoxville News-Sentinel and The Post-Crescent in Appleton, Wis.
