By: E&P Staff President-elect Barack Obama will soon be adopting a dog from an animal shelter, if cartoonist Patrick McDonnell has anything to say about it.
McDonnell, creator of the comic strip ?Mutts,? created a week?s worth of strips -- the first of which runs Monday -- extolling the virtues of shelter adoptions.
?I normally stay away from politics, but this was a perfect fit,? McDonnell
told The New York Times Sunday.
The
first of the strips features Mooch the cat and Earl the dog discussing the next first pet.
?If the Obama household adopted a mutt, it would make a huge statement,? McDonnell told the Times.
Distributed by King Features Syndicate, ?Mutts? appears in more than 700 newspapers worldwide and online at muttscomics.com.
