By: Jennifer Saba This weekend, publishers across the country will gather for the Newspaper Association of America?s annual meeting in Chicago. This year, the NAA is holding its technology and printing conference NEXPO in conjunction with the publisher?s meeting.
Speakers lined up for the event -- taking place April 1 through April 4 -- include U.S. Senator Barack Obama, who is scheduled to speak during the Associated Press luncheon on Monday. H. Lee Scott, chairman of Wal-Mart, will do the honors during the NAA luncheon on Tuesday.
Though not on the agenda, there?s no doubt there will be lots of chatter from industry executives surrounding the McClatchy/Knight Ridder deal and the 12 papers still up for grabs. Executives from both companies are expected to attend.
Officially, the NAA plans unveil its $50 million advertising campaign targeted to media buyers and planners to publishers and new spring numbers from the NADbase.
Other sessions include how to publish in the time of crisis, how to navigate new Audit Bureau of Circulation rules and regulations, and how to ready your staff for media transformation. Evening parties are planned for leading art museums.
NEXPO is being held April 1-4 at McCormick Place. It will feature a tour of the Chicago Tribune's Freedom Center Campus and under-construction press room, on Sunday night.
