Sixteen-year-old Ryan Sprague has been named the Best Newspaper Carrier in the United States for carriers 18 and under, by the Newspaper Association of America.
Sprague has delivered The Courier Express in DuBois, Pa., since 2006. He has Cerebral Palsy, and gets a hand from his father, Paul, on his route each day after school.
“I feel good about it. It means I did something [they] appreciate, and I’m honored,” Sprague told local CBS TV affiliate WTAJ.
Sprague was also a runner-up in the Pennsylvania Newspaper Association’s newspaper carrier contest, and a runner-up in the InterState Circulation Manager Group’s Regional Competition.
“He tries to go a little bit extra for his customers,” Paul Sprague told WTAJ. “He makes sure he gets the paper there before it’s supposed to be. He’s friendly with them, cares about them, and asks what’s going on in their lives.”
