NAA Projects Ad Growth Up 4.1% in 2005

By: E&P Staff The Newspaper Association of America released its projected advertising numbers today, and the organization estimates newspaper ad revenue of $48.6 billion in 2005, up 4.1% over this year.

National, retail, and classified categories are expected to show modest increases in 2005. National advertising is projected to increase 5% to $8.5 billion. Retail is expected to make slight gains, up 3% to $22.7 billion. Classified advertising is anticipated to slowdown though still grow 5.2% to $17.4 billion.

For the remainder of this year, the NAA believes that total advertising expenditures will increase 3.9% to $46.7 billion. For the first nine months of 2004, newspaper advertising totaled $33 billion.
