When I was in elementary school, I literally couldn’t fall asleep without a bedtime story. It didn’t matter if I couldn’t understand what was being read to me, how good the story was, or how many times I’d heard it. What my parents probably thought was fostering good reading habits unwittingly became a weird case of classical conditioning. For most of age 6, I couldn’t slumber in silence.
