By: E&P Staff The Chicago Tribune debuted its narrower broadsheet and shallower tabloid pages Monday.
The Tribune is shaving one inch from the page width of its broadsheet, which is delivered to subscribers, and one inch of the depth of its tabloid Trib to Go single-copy sales editions.
Many copies delivered Monday had not physically shrunk, and likely will not for a few weeks, the paper said, as it draws down on its current wider newsprint inventory.
In addition to page size, the Tribune dropped some comics and enlarged the size of others.
"It is important to note that the size of the text -- the 'body type' in news and feature stories -- will NOT change," Editor Gerould W. Kern wrote in a note to readers Monday, anticipating the most frequent complaint made when a redesign is introduced.
