National Columnists Day Arrives Again This Friday

Posted
By: E&P Staff This Friday is National Columnists Day (NCD) once again.

The National Society of Newspaper Columnists (NSNC) marked NCD for the first time on April 18, 1995 -- the 50th anniversary of the day famed columnist Ernie Pyle was shot to death while covering World War II.

Since '95, NCD has been marked every April 18th. On that day, a number of columnists write about the importance of Pyle and newspaper columns.

The idea for NCD came from then-NSNC President Bill Tammeus of The Kansas City Star, and the idea to mark it on April 18 was suggested by Fort Worth Star-Telegram columnist Dave Lieber.
