By: E&P Staff The National Post became available on Kindle devices for the first time Tuesday, with parent Canwest Publishing saying the rest of its metro papers will soon follow.

The National Post is only the second Canadian daily to become available on the e-readers by subscription from Amazon.com. CTVglobemedia Publishing?s Globe and Mail, Canada's other nationally circulated newspaper, has been available for some time.

"Whether in print, online, or on-the-go on mobile devices and smart phones, our quality journalism is accessible to Canadians where when and how they want it, throughout their day," said Canwest Publishing President and CEO Dennis Skulsky said in a statement. "Amazon's Kindle is another exciting step and whatever comes next, we'll be there too. We're excited to be celebrating Kindle's arrival today and I look forward to what the future holds as we continue to explore and develop innovations in multi media publishing and outlets for our unparalleled content."

Amazon.com noted that an estimated 100,000 Canadians are ?snowbirds? who avoid the harsh winter by staying in the U.S. South. ?For those who enjoy using their Amazon Kindle while in the US, for the first time this season, they will be able to subscribe to their favorite Canadian hometown or national newspaper too,? the company said.
