Ned Jennings, Asheville M.E., Dies at 59

By: Ned Jennings, a former managing editor of the Asheville Citizen-Times, has died. He was 59.

The newspaper reported that Jennings died Saturday at Mission Hospital in Asheville. A memorial service is scheduled for Monday.

Jennings was a writer-photographer for a weekly sports publication in the Louisville, Ky., area and later for the Harlan (Ky.) Daily Enterprise. He went to the Kingsport (Tenn.) Times-News as a reporter before returning to Louisville as editor and general manager of weekly publications.

Jennings came to the Citizen-Times in 1983 as a copy editor and in 1984 was named regional editor. He was managing editor from 1987 to 1988, stepping down to become special sections editor. He left the newspaper in 1997.

Among the survivors are his mother and his wife, three children and a grandson.
