By: E&P Staff Nela, in Oakdale, Minn., and Lahr, Germany, offers what it describes as a "simple and convenient tool" for converting plate cylinders on presses from two-around to one-around plates.
Nela enables on-press conversion through use of its own lock-up and filler bar, which is inserted into the existing cylinder. In order to not disturb the smooth running of the cylinder, the weight of the filler bar matches that of the existing lock assembly at the opposite side.
"We have considerable experience with the one-around application", Nela USA Sales Director Juergen Gruber said in a statement. "We assisted about a dozen newspapers in Asia and Europe in their conversion, and they are all happy with the results and especially the savings," he added.
Nela also has handled the required bender conversion, providing benders in Europe and the Far East, where the plate configuration is more common.
Return on investment, according Nela, comes from faster speed, added color-capacity and paper savings.
