New Black Paper To Launch In N.Y.

By: Kathryn Wade The Daily Journal, a new daily black newspaper, will hit the streets of New York on September 10th. The tabloid will be published by General Media Strategies, the company which publishes the African-American Observer, a weekly paper that has been in existence for eight years.

General Media Strategies owner Steve Mallory said the success of the Observer has enabled him to fund the new daily. Mallory is also publisher and executive editor.

The Daily Journal will report on local, national, and international news and issues of relevance to African Americans in New York and the surrounding areas. The debut edition will feature news on everything from business, sports, and entertainment to international news, and music coverage including rap, hip-hop, jazz, and African and Caribbean music.

General Media Strategies plans to distribute around 50,000 copies of the Daily Journal throughout the five boroughs. Circulation will be handled by the two main distributors in New York, DSA and CNS, which will support General Media?s own circulation department. The paper will sell for 35 cents a copy.
