New 'E&P' Audio/Podcast -- Will Newspapers Make Hay on 2008 Campaign Ads?

Posted
By: E&P Staff This week, in the latest offering from E&P audio/podcasting, Greg Mitchell, editor of the magazine, chats with Associate Editor Jennifer Saba as they discuss an important article just out this week in our December issue.

The December cover story of E&P is a 2008 Campaign Special, which explores how newspapers will be covering the upcoming political races -? increasingly via blogs -- and also try to make a buck off them in the form of print and, increasingly, Web advertising. But how successful will they be? We mean the ad people, not the candidates.

Saba talks about the big push for 2008 ad dollars led by the Newspaper Association of America and aslo individual papers who are actually hiring specialists in this field. She also looks at the overall picture, and discusses new issues at play, such as the growing push for ?advocacy? ads and the startling influence of free ?advertising,? via YouTube and candidates Web sites. This may hurt advertising on TV -- but will it also hurt newspaper sites?
