Posted
By: E & P Staff New "Eyetrack" findings are available today at the www.poynter.org Web site.

The latest Eyetrack III research, based on observing 46 people for one hour as their eyes followed mock news web sites and multimedia content, was released by the Poynter Institute, the Estlow Center for Journalism & New Media and Eyetools.

Among the many findings from this group:

* Smaller type encourages focused viewing behavior, while larger type promotes lighter scanning.

* For headlines, the first couple of words need to be real attention grabbers, and "a headline has less than a second of a site visitor's attention."

* Navigation placed at the top of a homepage performed best.

* Text ads were viewed most intently of all the types tested.

* Eyes most oftgen fixated first in the upper left of the page.
