By: E&P Staff A new national poll from Gallup/USA Today just released confirms hints that John McCain has suddenly surged into the top spot among Republicans -- and, surprisingly, that Hillary Clinton seems to have quickly returned to her solid lead over Barack Obama just like back in the pre-Iowa days.
With the vote for John Edwards fading, it's possible that she gaining most of his former fans.
Here are the latest figures: with last week's numbers in parens.
McCain: 33% (19%).
Mike Huckabee: 19% (25%).
Rudy Giuliani: 13% (20%).
Mitt Romney: 11% (9%).
Fred Thompson: 9% (12%).
Rep. Ron Paul: 3% (4%).

Obama: 33%, unchanged.
Edwards: 13% (20%).
Kucinich: 1% (3%).
