By: E&P Staff Goss International has received orders for 11 new presses from three publishers in China. Eight of the presses were for the Goss Magnum 4, which is manufactured in China.
The Nanfang Daily Newspaper Group is buying eight Magnum 4 presses for its new media center near its headquarters in Guangzhou. The eight singlewide, two-around presses will form two production lines and join 13 other Goss presses, including Community, Newsliner and Magnum models in the facility. The Magnums will consist of 22 four-high towers, 30 reelstands and eight folders, and will be used to handle demand for more pages and color at the company's flagship, The Nanfang Daily.
To the north, in Tianjin city, the Tianjin Newspaper Printing Co. will install this spring a Universal 75 with four four-high towers, two folders and six reelstands. The company, established in the wake of the 2005 merger of the city's two major newspaper companies, Tianjin Daily and Tianjin Evening News, will house the new press in a new joint printing plant, where it will print the two dailies and other publications.
Wenhui Xinmin United Press Group has placed an order for two six-tower shaftless Goss Universal 75 presses to print the Wenhui Daily and Xinmin Evening News at its printing Shanghai plant. The towers, with eight reelstands and two folders, will also be equipped with EAE controls, including infeed and outfeed system and a color-control system. A blanket washer will be purchased at a later date. Each capable of printing 32 broadsheet or 64 tabloid pages, the presses will have a 546mm cut-off.
