By: E&P Staff Rob Reiner's new movie, "Rumor Has It," which opens on Christmas Day, features Jennifer Aniston as a New York Times obit writer who claims she is in career "going absolutely nowhere." She also says she is a journalist "only in a manner of speaking."
But the movie mainly has to do with her search for her father, who just may be the grown-up character of Benjamin played by Dustin Hoffman in "The Graduate" in the late-1960s. The list includes: Capra's "You Can't Take It With You," Kubrick's "Dr. Strangelove" ("Our source was...the New York Times"), "Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean," "Serpico," "Silkwood," "The Killing Fields," and "Brekfast at Tiffany's", among others. Truman Capote in "Capote" learns about the Kansas murders via a Times clipping.
