By: E&P Staff Pamela J. Browning has been appointed president and publisher of The Macon (Ga.) Telegraph and Adrian Pratt has been named president and publisher of the Centre Daily Times in State College, Pa.

Browning served as publisher and president of the Centre Daily Times since March of last year. Pratt was president and publisher of the Aberdeen (S.D.) American News since 2000. Browning will report to Ricky Matthews, president and publisher of the Sun Herald in Biloxi, Miss., who has oversight of the paper. Pratt will report Paula Ellis, vice president of operations for Knight Ridder.

"In just a short time she has been in State College [Browning] has proven to be an enormously effective team-builder, an inspiration to the newspaper's staff and a strong presence in the community," Matthews said in a statement. "Her strong marketing background and revenue-building instincts will stand her in good stead in this new assignment-in a part of the country, incidentally, she has long wished to live."

Ellis said that Pratt had built daily and Sunday circulation at his former paper. "In a circulation area that covers 36,000 square miles (and 85 high schools), he has done a remarkable job of beefing up both local news and opinion. He is a notable community leader as well. Aberdeen's loss will surely be State College's gain," Ellis said in a statement.
