By: The Las Vegas Optic will begin publishing three days a week instead of 5.
The northern New Mexico newspaper currently publishes Mondays through Fridays, but editor and publisher Tom McDonald says it will begin a Monday-Wednesday-Friday schedule by March 2.
He blames economic circumstances, and says the paper has to cut expenses.
The Optic's total paid circulation as of Oct. 1 was 4,359.
McDonald says it reduced its workforce the equivalent of 4 full-time positions last year through attrition.
He says no layoffs are scheduled, but carrier contracts likely will end as the newspaper moves to mailed deliveries.
The Optic currently has 21 full- and part-time employees and contracts with more than a dozen carriers delivering to homes in San Miguel, Mora and Guadalupe counties.
