New Owner Changes Liberty Group's Name to GateHouse Media

By: E&P Staff Liberty Group Publishing Inc. has changed its name to GateHouse Media Inc.

The move follows by nearly a year the acquisition of the big community newspaper publisher by an affiliate of Fortress Investment Group LLC.

The name change was announced with news of a definitive agreement to purchase substantially all the assets of CP Media Inc., the community newspaper subsidiary of Boston Herald publisher Herald Media Inc., and of Enterprise NewsMedia Holding LLC, publisher of two Massachusetts dailies, the Quincy Patriot Ledger and Brockton Enterprise plus 11 non-dailies in the South Boston area.

With the acquisition, Northbrook, Ill.-based GateHouse will be among the nation?s biggest chains, with 77 dailies, 271 non-dailies, and 136 shoppers and other publications. It has properties in 17 states.
