New President at Wisconsin Newspaper Assn.

By: (AP) Carl Hearing, vice president and general manager of The Monroe Times, was elected president of the Wisconsin Newspaper Association during its annual convention yesterday.

Hearing is publisher of The Monroe Times, Monroe Shopping News, Freeport (Ill.) Shopping News, and Freeport iNK, all properties of Bliss Communications Inc. of Janesville.

Publisher in Monroe for the past 13 years, Hearing also worked at the Janesville Gazette for six years.

Previously he worked in sales and management positions in Ohio and Minnesota for three daily newspapers, one weekly newspaper and one twice-monthly farm publication.

In addition to serving as a WNA director and treasurer, Hearing has been a board member of the Southern Wisconsin Builders Association, charter member of the Green County Development Corporation, and president of the Monroe Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

He served as small business division chairman for the United Way of Green County, member of the Green County W-2 steering committee, co-chairman of the Monroe School District Facility Advisory Committee, on the board of the Monroe Arts Center, and on the board of the Monroe United Methodist Church.

He and his wife, Vicki, have two adult children, Matthew and Sarah. The couple lives in Monroe.

The WNA is comprised of the state's daily and weekly newspapers.

Hearing succeeds Trey Foerster, publisher of The Iola Herald and The Manawa Advocate.
