New Publisher Named at Long Beach 'Press-Telegram'

By: E&P Staff Mark Ficcara has been named publisher of the Press-Telegram in Long Beach, Calif., He was named publisher of the Daily Breeze in Torrance, Calif., in January, and will now hold both positions.

Ficcara has spent more than 20 years in the newspaper business, serving as vice president for advertising for the East Valley (Ariz.) Tribune, general manager of Clipper magazine, and general manager of the Pennysaver in Phoenix.

The managerial change is part of a restructuring across the Los Angeles Newspaper Group. The former Press-Telegram publisher and managing editor will leave, as their positions have been eliminated.

Overall, an estimated nine newsroom jobs will be lost at the Press-Telegram as its production staff was merged with the Daily Breeze. Its copy-editing and design work will now be handled by the Breeze, and twelve Press-Telegram employees are expected to be rehired at the Torrance paper.
