By: E&P Staff A Seattle company has launched the SmallTownPapers News Service (STPNS) to provide small-market newspapers with a way to distribute their content.
"Newspapers from small towns have long been overlooked by [entities such as] news services because it was too expensive to gather small-market news," Paul Jeffko, president and founder of SmallTownPapers, Inc., said in a statement. "STPNS gives these newspapers a way to share their news and information with the world and gives consumers and organizations an easy way to access local content of interest to them."
LexisNexis, Topix.net, and Newstex, LLC, are among the first to sign on to distribute STPNS content, which includes news and feature articles, photos, sports statistics, and other material.
The news service so far has more than 40 participating newspapers in nearly 20 states, according to its Web site (http://www.stpns.net). STPNS not only provides small papers with a way to get their content out, but also gives them ideas for their own stories when they see what other small papers are doing.
