By: E&P Staff Southern Lithoplate Inc., headquartered in Wake Forest, N.C., will put its new offset plate production facility into operation. March 1. With its new Litho Center, the maker of digital and analog lithoplates said it can deliver 300 million square feet of serviceable lithoplate capacity per year.
The production site - the company's third -- will manufacture Viper 830 thermal plates for the newspaper computer-to-plate market and Cobra 830 TN thermal plates used by commercial CTP customers. The Litho Center is designed to support growth in Southern Lithoplate's newspaper and commercial plate output for several years.
The new plant "fills the void created in recent years by the reduction in lithoplate manufacturing in North America, while meeting the strong demand that is specific to Southern Lithoplate's ongoing customer partner programs," President Clark A. Casson said in a statement.
The Litho Center was built next to the company's main production facility in Wake Forest. Southern Lithoplate also operates a manufacturing site in Jackson, Tenn. The three locations combined occupy more than 225,000 square feet.
The company reported brisk sales of Viper 830 lithoplates as a result of the Southern Lithoplate CtP Alliance Solution, which provides newspaper printers with a single source for workflow applications, platesetters and punch-bend equipment. A core element of the alliance is integrated-response service available around the clock, seven days a week.
The Litho Center is the seventh expansion at the Wake Forest campus since 1993. To meet forecast growth of digital and analog lithoplate demand, the company said it has plans for capital expansions to its Jackson plant.
