New Tabloid to Hit New York City

On Tuesday morning, Tribune Co. of Chicago announced that it will invest in the paper, to be called amNewYork. The Monday-Friday publication will launch in the fourth quarter, according to Tribune.

Tribune Publishing President Jack Fuller called the new venture "an exciting addition to our New York portfolio."

Former Boston Metro honcho Russel Pergament set up a holding company, North American Newspaper Holdings LLC, and has been seeking investors for his new venture. In the Tribune statement, Pergament said, "Tribune is a great partner with well-established media properties in the New York metropolitan area. With our commitment to urban commuters, we plan to provide news and infromation relevant to young readers' everyday lives and create a targeted advertising alternative for marketers."
