By: Staff reports Editorial Page Editor To Write Twice-Weekly Column
John Podhoretz, the editorial page editor of the New York Post, has resigned to focus on various writing projects, including a twice-weekly column for the Post and a book about political campaigns in the coming year.
His resignation from the often biting, consistently conservative editorial page came after a meeting Dec. 3 with Post Publisher Kenneth Chandler, who portrayed the move as a reassignment.
?It had been apparent to me for some time that we'd piled a lot on his plate,? Chandler told The New York Times, noting that Podhoretz was responsible for the editorial pages and the arts and leisure section every day of the week. Chandler said Podhoretz agreed with him that it was too much work, and accepted the column when Chandler offered it to him.
?It's a good outcome for all sides,? said the publisher.
Podhoretz, who also writes for the conservative magazine The Weekly Standard and is a Fox New commentator, told the Times he was burned out: and resigned to focus on his writing.
No replacement has yet been named for Podhoretz, a spokesman for the newspaper tells E&P Interactive.
