By: E&P Staff In order to get more movie ad dollars, The New York Times announced today it's launching an in-cinema pocket-sized magazine called ?OnMovies? on Dec. 16. The publication will feature editorial content from the Times and its Web site originating from the Culture desk. It will be published 18 times a year with a distribution of 1.25 million copies.
OnMovies further positions the Times as a national newspaper since the magazine will be distributed at Loews Cineplex Theaters in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Boston, Washington D.C., Dallas, and Seattle. Moviegoers get a copy when they purchase tickets.
The magazine plans to dedicate 50% of its pages to advertising, going after such categories as fashion and jewelry, packaged goods, and consumer electronics.
Each issue will include feature articles on new movies, excerpts from Times' film reviews, comments from stars and filmmakers, notable DVD releases, and a brief story on a current documentary.
