By: E&P Staff Online cartoon-image library CSL CartoonStock is launching a "CSL Vintage" archive of historic cartoons and illustrations.

The images -- mainly from the 18th and 19th centuries -- include work by such notable American and British creators as Thomas Nast (the father of modern editorial cartooning), John Tenniel, James Gillray, and George Cruikshank.

The images depict events such as the Civil War and the French Revolution, and political figures such as William Gladstone and Benjamin Disraeli. Also included are literary scenes from Charles Dickens, Lewis Carroll, Daniel Defoe, the Brothers Grimm, and other writers.

The 1997-founded CSL CartoonStock (http://www.cartoonstock.com) offers a searchable database that includes gag and political cartoons.

What can a self-driving car teach news publishers about AI? Quite a lot, according to Guy Tasaka. How Dublin Inquirer uses legal risk assessments to keep accountability journalism moving

When Dublin Inquirer publishes a sensitive accountability story, the challenge isn’t just reporting the facts. It’s deciding whether a small, seven-person newsroom can afford the legal risks that sometimes come with telling the public what it needs to know. For editor and co-founder Sam Tranum and deputy editor Lois Kapila, those decisions once came down to late-night conversations and educated guesswork. Today, the independent Dublin newsroom relies on Reporters Shield’s Legal Risk Assessment service to help identify potential legal vulnerabilities before publication—allowing journalists to move forward with greater confidence while keeping important stories alive.
