Nearly 5,800 celebrities, politicians, sports stars and others may have been targeted in the
News of the World hacking scandal, it was claimed Wednesday night.
The latest figures suggest the practice was far more widespread than has previously been admitted.
Scotland Yard confirmed there were 5,795 possible victims of the private investigator Glenn Mulcaire, who was jailed for his role in hacking the phones of members of the Royal Family.
