'Newsday' Promotes Tim Knight to President

By: Jennifer Saba Newsday of Melville, N.Y., announced today that Timothy P. Knight has been promoted to president and chief operating officer. He will continue to report to Publisher and CEO Raymond A. Jansen. Since joining the paper in February 2003, Knight, 38, served as executive vice president and general manager.

"In the nearly year and a half Tim Knight has been with Newsday, he has been instrumental in helping to shape the plan that will take Newsday into the future," said Jansen in a statement.

Before joining Newsday, Knight served various executive positions within the Tribune Co. including vice president/strategic marketing, development and finance for the Chicago Tribune and vice president/strategy development of Tribune Publishing Co.

Newsday also named John McKeon as executive vice president and general manager. He will report to Knight. McKeon most recently served as senior vice president and general manager of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel in Fort Lauderdale. McKeon, 47, returns to Newsday where he first served as senior vice president/advertising before joining the Los Angeles Times.

As for the vice president of circulation post, Stu Vincent, spokesperson for Newsday, confirmed that Robert Brennan is still on administrative leave.
