By: E&P Staff The Newspaper Association of America reported that print and online advertising revenue in Q1 increased 3.6% to $10.9 billion, when compared to the same period last year. While ad spending online accounted for 4% of the quarter's total, it was the fastest growing segment, up 39.7% to $455 million. Ad spending on print grew 2.4% to $10.5 billion.
Not including online, retail advertising revenue was up 2.8% to $4.9 billion. National ad revenue slipped 0.6% to $1.8 billion. Classified advertising advanced 3.5% to $3.7 billion.
Within the classified category, help wanted rose 14.7% to $1.1 billion. Real estate declined 0.3% to $880 million. Automotive dropped 4.8% to $1.1 billion. Other classified revenue grew 7.2% to $628 million.
