Newspaper Alliance Architect Dan Finnigan Leaves Yahoo

By: E&P Staff Dan Finnigan, the architect of Yahoo?s newspaper alliance, is leaving the company.

Classified Intelligence reports that Hilary Schneider, a senior vice president at Yahoo, announced his departure in an e-mail to Yahoo employees this afternoon. She wrote that Finnigan played a "pivotal role in driving the expansion of (the HotJobs relationships) into a broader deal within the newspaper consortium."

Finnigan joined Yahoo in 2002 as executive vice president and GM of HotJobs. Before that he was president of Knight Ridder Digital-- a position that Schneider filled upon his departure. Finnigan reported to Schneider at Yahoo.

Schneider?s memo revealed that Finnigan told her that after completing the newspaper deal last fall that "he wanted to pursue emerging entrepreneurial growth opportunities in Silicon Valley."
