Newspaper Carrier Shot on Freeway -- Keeps Driving

Posted
By: Authorities say a newspaper carrier was shot while driving on the freeway during his early morning deliveries and drove to a friend's house before reporting the incident.

Richmond police say someone in a white sedan opened fire on the victim's Toyota Prius before dawn Monday as he drove on Interstate 80 in Albany. The 32-year-old East Oakland man was hit in the leg and continued driving to Richmond before calling his brother.

Richmond officers found the man on a street after his brother called police. He was taken to a local hospital in serious but stable condition. His name has not been released.

Authorities briefly shut down a stretch of I-80 to look for bullet casings but did not find such evidence. Albany police will be taking over the case since the shooting took place near its jurisdiction.
