SEOUL, South Korea — China has released five South Koreans, including three journalists, who were detained while on a reporting trip along China’s border with North Korea last week, a spokesman for the reporters’ newspaper said on Thursday.
The three journalists affiliated with the mass-circulation daily JoongAng Ilbo and two researchers from the government-financed Korea Transport Institute were near the Tumen River, which forms the northeastern border between China and North Korea, when they were stopped by the Chinese police on Sept. 20.
