Newspaper Photo Leads to Bust of Infamous "Bag Lady Bandit"

By: E&P Staff A newspaper photo has led to the arrest of the suspected serial bank robber famous as the "Bag Lady Bandit."

Cathy Lynn Longley, 39, of San Jose, was taken into custody outside of Sacramento and was being held Thursday on a $950,000 bond at the Placer County Jail on suspicion of robbery.

She is accused of being a fearless robber who calmly placed a bag on bank counters and instructed tellers to place cash inside it.

She was arrested Wednesday after employees at Jackson Rancheria Casino in Jackson, Ca., saw a photo of the suspect in the newspaper, recognized her as a regular there and called police.

Since March, the robber is believed to have robbed banks located in supermarkets in Los Gatos, Fremont, Livermore, and several other cities.
