By: E&P Staff Multi-channel newspaper and magazine content distribution developer NewspaperDirect, Vancouver, B.C., has integrated Akamai's Dynamic Site Accelerator service into its line of digital publication services in order to improve the user experience.
NewspaperDirect is offloading some 70% of its infrastructure to Akamai's globally distributed platform of over 28,000 servers. Akamai, based in Cambridge, Mass., can provide performance improvements of up to five times that available through the original Web infrastructure, according to NewspaperDirect.
NewspaperDirect provides online access to more than 500 full-content newspapers and magazines to six million visitors. PressDisplay.com, its online newspaper kiosk, includes multimedia content and advanced features such as instant translation and newspaper radio. By relying on Akamai's globally distributed platform, NewspaperDirect can avoid a costly hardware build-out required to support the increased load brought on by richer content, the company says.
