The Chicago Sun-Times announced Wednesday that its daily weekday readership has surpassed
the Chicago Tribune in the paper's market area, according to Scarborough Research Corp.
of New York.
The newspaper reported that its readership in the six-country metro area totaled 1.7
million in the 12 months ending Feb. 29, an increase of 3%. Meanwhile, the Tribune saw
readership fall 9.9% to 1.5 million, the Sun-Times said.
In terms of circulation, the Chicago Tribune remains the leader, according to the 2000 E&P
International Year Book, which puts daily circ at 657,690. That makes the Tribune the 7th
largest daily in the U.S. The Sun-Times ranks at No. 11, with a daily circulation of
468,170.
