By: E&P Staff At this year's Upper Midwest Emmy Awards, the big winners were WCCO-TV in Minneapolis for station excellence, KMSP-TV in the Twin Cities for best newscast -- and the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
The newspaper scooped up six Emmys, an award once reserved exclusively for television broadcasters.
And the Star Tribune was not the only newspaper to bring home Emmys -- the Des Moines Register won two.
The newspapers competed in the "Advanced Media" category, where 15 Emmys were up for grabs -- and the papers won eight of them.
The regional Emmy Awards were presented last Saturday by the Minnesota Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, which also covers North Dakota, South Dakota, western Wisconsin and all of Iowa, except the Davenport-Waterloo market. The Emmy awards were reported by Aimee Blanchette in a story published Thursday in the Star Tribune.
