Newstec hires Gardner as software v.p.

By: E&P Staff Stuart Gardner has been hired as vice president for software systems at Newstec, Walpole, Mass., supplier of newspaper inserting equipment and controls.

With The Boston Globe in various software engineering and analyst capacities since 1989, Gardner was named the Globe's Distinguished Employee of the Year in 1995. In 2003, he became business technology solutions director, responsible for development and integration of software infrastructure, including post-press production systems.

A Marine Corps reservist who recently returned from Iraq, Gardner's background includes software development studies at Harvard and Boston universities.
