By: E&P Staff Mark Whitaker, the editor of Newsweek magazine since 1998 and a 25-year veteran of the publication, has been tapped for the newly created position of Vice President and Editor-in-Chief of New Ventures at the digital division of The Washington Post Company, Washingtonpost.Newsweek Interactive.
Whitaker, under whose stewardship Newsweek won E&P's EPpy award for best newsmagazine Web site will be responsible for developing and supervising new Web sites and other wireless and multimedia ventures at the company. He will have access to editorial assets from all across the Washington Post company, and he will also work to exploser outside partnerships and acquisitions. The company's interactive division currently includes washingtonpost.com, Newsweek.com, Slate, and BudgetTravelOnline.com.
