N.H. 'Telegraph' to Roll Out Metered System

Posted
By: E&P Staff The Telegraph in Nashua, N.H., announced it's rolling out an online metered pay system similar to that used by the Financial Times and soon to be used by The New York Times.

The changes to the site will begin to take place in mid-April, reports Telegraph staff writer Ashley Smith. Readers will be able to access the Web site for free until they hit 10 page views during the month. Once readers reach that ceiling and they want to see more, they must register. In June, readers will be required to purchase a subscription after 30 clicks per month.

Some content will not count toward the limit such as breaking news. Print subscribers will have full free access to the site after a one-time registration. The price for an online subscription has yet to be determined.

"We approached this very analytically and fairly cautiously because we value the Web traffic we have now," Ernesto Burden, Telegraph vice president of digital media, told Smith.
